You can support some of the Canadian Eskimo Dogs by donating towards their care and upkeep. Many dogs that we have here have, through no fault of their own have been given up, abandoned or needed a safe space.
The dogs that we have here that need homes are those that may need that special home with time and understanding. Not everyone can offer a space in their life for a Canadian Eskimo Dog but could do more good by donating towards their daily needs.
The Harsh Facts
In 2022 a total of 7 dogs came into our care at Akna. These dogs cost on average £30~£40 per month each to feed. Vets bills for 2022 for these dogs came to around £1800.
In 2023 I had to refuse a safe space to 3 elderly Canadian Eskimo Dogs. We managed to rehome 1 of those girls to a lively home with another CED.
What does 2024 look like? Already we have had two dogs returned to us and several large vet bills for poorly dogs. Showing has been reduced so that we only attend key events which has meant a lack of support.
What funds the dogs currently?
Currently the dogs are paid for by us working several jobs, overtime, sales of any small amount of dog sledding equipment we make and all money raised from dogs sold go back into our own dogs which inevitably spills over into caring for the dogs we take on. Do any of their previous owners pay towards their care now? The answer is no, no longer their dog, no longer their responsibility, no longer “their” problem!

Canadian Eskimo Dogs can not just eat any dog food and sadly we can not just accept food parcels of any type of food. Lots of food products can upset their digestive system and ultimately cost us more money or serious issues needing veterinary treatment. What the dogs love are frozen raw in either single proteins or complete such as tripe, fish, game meats, lamb and beef. Canadian Eskimo Dogs can eat poultry products but turkey and chicken isn’t the best especially daily. They can eat some kibble brands such as Jolleys Lifestage, Fish 4 Dogs, Acana, Orijen, Eden, butchers tripe, chappie, Canagan, Aatu, Carnilove to name but a few.
